10-year old Gabrysia from Szydłowiec has saved her entire family from gas canister explosion which could have ended in a tragedy if it was not for the little girl's lightning-quick reaction and training.
Gabrysia Szeliga from Szydłowiec is a true hero - she has saved her parents and her family home from fire, which threatened to break out after a gas cylinder explosion has left her mother and father burned. Young Gabrysia remained calm and called emergency services - paramedics transported her parents to the ER, while the firefighters managed to quickly douse the flames.The girl does not see herself as a hero, and attributes her behaviour to reasonable thinking.
In a sense, I feel like a superhero, because I was just as afraid as any superhero. Like, in comic books, superheroes save people, and after it is done, they often say how frightened they have been. Same with me. I was very frightened on the inside, but my reason told me not to be frightened, to take action instead... I don't think I deserve any special thanks or gifts. I don't need them. Gabrysia's school celebrated her brave stance by hosting a special event to commemorate her achievement, and the headmaster of the school has officially applied to the ministry of internal affairs for the little girl to be awarded the special title of "Young Hero". The children's skills should come as no surprise when one learns that the school cooperates with the voluntary fire departments, which lead CPR for Schools lessons for the pupils. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has teamed up with local volunteer firefighters, who since last year are conducting first aid and CPR lessons at primary schools as partners of our CPR for Schools educational initiative.
