One billion PLN raised in 27 years

With the latest reports from all over the world bringing the updates on the sum raised by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, we can now announce that we have raised 1 000 000 000 PLN since we began our activity in 1994.

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity began as a one-time initiative to finance a purchase of one piece of medical equipment for paediatric cardiac surgery. However, the outpouring of support from citizens of the country which was leaving the communist past behind surprised the activists behind the fundraiser. Consequently, a charity which aims to support Polish medical system was established. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity works to raise funds which are then used to purchase modern medical equipment for paediatric care. In the past the NGO has also raised funds to equip seriously neglected geriatric wards.

The charity has helped countless children by ensuring that medical staff has access to top-quality equipment

The key idea behind the success of this NGO is its grassroots nature. The main fundraiser takes place once a year is organized locally, by groups of volunteers and activists. Throughout the years, the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity became one of the driving forces of third sector activity in the country. Moreover, the initiative went worldwide - local editions of the Grand Finale charitable fundraiser are held by Polish communities living abroad.

This year marks the 27th edition of the Foundraiser and the sum raised by the charity in aid of Polish medical care surpassed the treshold of 1 000 000 000 PLN (over 230 000 000 EUR). The preliminary result of the fundraiser will be announced at midnight. The final result will be announced in March.

The charity provided almost 6000 high-tech pieces of medical equipment to public hospitals in the country.
