Our charity offered emergency support to hospitals struggling with a shortage of beds for COVID-19 wards. The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity responded to requests from hospital administrators nationwide and immediately ordered 1 279 ICU beds.
The board of the charity was alarmed by the information that many Polish hospitals, tasked with establishing new COVID-19 wards, were forced to move beds from other hospital wards. What was especially concerning to the GOCC board was the fact that the beds in question were not only donated by the charity, and as such were intended for use at the unit alone, but also that the units in question host some of the most vulnerable patients such as the elderly patients at geriatric wards and children and young adults from youth psychiatric clinics. We could not allow the interruption of their treatment, so the chairman of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity addressed hospital administrators and offered to purchase ICU beds, which will be used at the new coronavirus wards.
We received a barrage of requests from hospitals nationwide. Relying on our contacts in the industry we could secure the purchase of beds, specially designed to be used at the intensive care units. The beds will be delivered to 80 hospitals nationwide, ensuring that the hospitals can continue treating patients, who are already in their care.
The first batch of beds was delivered to a hospital in Warsaw within a week of making the order, and the following units will reach hospitals nationwide shortly.
